Jay Fiske (b. 1980) is from Massachusetts.
He is a working musician, photographer, woodworker, and visual artist.
His visual art and photography reflect an attempt to capture fleeting natural phenomena: depictions of visible ultra-violet occurances, temporary states of weather, and glimpses into private human worlds. These works are ritual processes conducted in ceremony, outside. A way of becoming attuned to the human role as a caretaker and friend of planet earth.
His creative sculptural and building practices are rooted in an awareness of environmental stewardship and responsibility. All materials should be traceable and biodegradable, able to break back back into the ecological environment without repercussion. His interest is rooted in using only textures and shapes that are of an in nature, remembering that nature is resilient and varied, and part of us. Wood, clay, pigment and plaster.
He performs and records music as/in Pure Waves, Sung Mountains, Jay Fiske, and Cloud People: all projects that seek to engage and activate consciousness, reflect the peace and generosity of the natural world, and inspire embodied movement and expression.
Jay’s paintings, sculptures, and visual art have been shown in galleries across Montana, Oregon, and California. He is one half of Omo, a creative fabrication studio focused on functional sculpture and design. He currently lives in Missoula, Montana.
